Three decades after its premiere, Rami Be’er’s iconic masterpiece returns to the stage. Aide-Mémoire, one of the landmark works of Israeli dance, echoes both the personal and collective trauma left by the Holocaust on society and the individual.
Be’er — one of Israel’s most prominent choreographers and a second-generation Holocaust survivor — moves through associative flashes, deconstructing and reconstructing the intergenerational memory etched into the skin and engraved on the body
“… Aide Memoire, a stirring work that rightly elicited a standing ovation…succeeds as an evocation without trying for a description…Highly theatrical in his lighting… Be’er achieves his dramatic purpose through choreographed free association…. The committed performance of the cast and the purity of the choreography will win you over.” – The New York Times
Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (KCDC), one of the world’s leading dance companies, is renowned for the distinctive choreographic voice of Artistic Director Rami Be’er, whose unique artistic language has become the company’s signature, both in Israel and internationally. With a technically powerful, physically versatile cast and a dynamic, expressive sensibility, KCDC stands at the forefront of contemporary dance, performing at prestigious theaters and festivals worldwide from the Sydney Opera House to The Kennedy Center.
Founded in 1970 by the late Yehudit Arnon, KCDC laid the groundwork for today’s thriving International Dance Village, which continues to evolve into a first-class center for dance under the visionary leadership of Rami Be’er and the company’s dedicated management and staff. Beyond artistic excellence, KCDC is deeply committed to education and community engagement, nurturing the next generation of dancers while serving as a cultural hub for both local and global communities.
Perched atop the rolling hills of the Western Galilee in Kibbutz Ga’aton, the International Dance Village is the heart and home of KCDC. Nearly 100 Israeli and international dancers form the Main Company, the Second Company (KCDC 2), and participate in the Dance Journey study abroad program, as well as the annual Summer Intensive program for high school and university-age dancers from around the world combining elite performance, rigorous training, and a deep commitment to cultural exchange
